MEMBERSHIP & TRAINING

WHAT TO EXPECT
  • To get wet…. a large amount of our activities are carried out in the North sea, swimming and prone paddle boarding.

  • To get sandy…with in surf lifesaving fitness is a key skill and there are lots of high energy beach games we play to increase cardo fitness and stamina.

  • To learn about the ocean environment, how to respect it, read the dangers, know what to do in and emergency and learn how to save lives.

  • To become part of a team and make friends.

  • To compete…most sessions contain a healthy element of competition, sometimes within a team, individually or often just against yourself.

  • To have lots of fun. Everything we do we try and have fun.
WHAT WE EXPECT

As a club member you have a duty to:

  • Take reasonable care for your own health & safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or not do.

  • Co-operate with the club on health & safety issues.

  • Correctly use all equipment provided by the club.

  • Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.
TRAINING

We have training for :

  • The Nippers (7 – 12 years)
  • Youth (13 – 15 years)
  • Open (16 -30 years)
  • Seniors (30+)

We also run a Winter Swim programme specifically for Pool training.

What you need

  • A good fitting full length wetsuit is essential and no training without one! A wetsuit with growing room is about as much use as a chocolate teapot! They need to be tight as cold water running down your neck creates balloon ankles because it can’t escape and it is not nice.  A good 3/2mm should be sufficient but if you are prone to being very cold a 4/3 may be a consideration.  If you do not have a wetsuit, we do have a small selection which could be borrowed for your trial period.  If financing a wetsuit is likely to prevent you from joining let us know as we could help out longer term.  Glide surf school on the prom at Cromer (below the Red Lion Pub) are offering clubbies a 10% discount and will definitely help you choose the right kit. They are now open every day throughout the summer. Club members also get 15% discount at East Coast Surf opposite the Church in Cromer. We are hoping to run a ‘donate back to the Club’ Wetsuit option, which will then be available to new or existing members at a reduced cost.

  • Goggles & Swim Hat, a Club hat can be purchased through the Club.

  • Club Rash Vest, again can be purchased through the Club.

  • Wetsuit boots are optional but advisable particularly during early season, again they need to be reasonable fit as beach running in a flipper full of water is not easy!

  • Bring a drink and snack with you for after the session.

hello@mundesleyslsc.co.uk

Please include details of the following:

  • swimming ability,
  • confidence (under or over the water),
  • any worries they may have,
  • if they have particular friendships with existing club members
  • Inform us of any individual needs your child has which may affect their own or other members safety. In particular, if they have difficulties following instruction, listening or behaviour. Club sessions are fast and fun. It is essential we know any issue, to ensure the safety of your child and all club members.
  • All information will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
Volunteers

We are a charity run entirely by volunteers.  We would love our members and their family members to get involved.  You all have skills and I’m sure we can use them, from coaching, lifeguarding, admin, fundraising, IT, even cake making.
Like I said whatever your skill set is I am sure we can use it!!!

Please speak to one of the Coaches if you would like to help out.

HOUSEKEEPING
  • We meet near Mundesley Inshore Lifeboat Station.
    • Pre-season there may be some weekend sessions and winter training is TBC
  • No cars are permitted to use the lifeboat slope.
The sea front carpark is free after 6pm.

  • Apart from an Iso container we do not have any facilities. Ideally participants should arrive ready for action. Wetsuits put on at home to waist height with a hoody on top is a good option.

  • Toilets are located at the beach café or opposite The Ship Pub. Should a child need to use the toilet mid-session, they are returned to their parent to take them! If they are wearing their own wetsuit there is another option!!  Please ensure you child goes before a session.

  • For under 13’s, we ask an adult with authorised responsibility for the child stays within reasonable distance of the training activity, so if your child is cold, injured and needs to opt out of a session for any reason they can be returned to their responsible adult. If another parent is responsible for you child, please ensure your child and the leader in charge is aware.

  • Post session, we have to bring all the equipment off the beach, brush sand off and store it away in the containers.  Helpful volunteers are always much appreciated.
CLUB KIT

We have an expanding range of Club Kit that can be purchased directly from our supplier but you will incur postage costs.
